Tie rod holes in basement walls are created by the 5/8” rods used to hold the steel forms together during the original foundation pouring of your basement. After the concrete has cured, the rods are disassembled and when they are removed, holes are left that go straight through your foundation.

Cracks up to 25mm wide could be a sign of structural damage and should be inspected and repaired by a professional. Very severe – any crack above 25mm in width indicates serious structural damage and will need major repair work, which could include underpinning and rebuilding.
